Getting here and getting around
We are about a two hour drive from midtown Manhattan, and there are many ways to get here.
ByTrain: Take the Amtrak to Hudson, NY, right across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge from us. From there you can take a cab, or have Enterprise Rentacar meet you at the station with a rental car. If you mention you are staying with us, they offer a discount.
By Air: Many of our guests fly in to the area. The three big airports near NYC are all convenient, but can be crowded. Many travelers now fly into Stewart International, which is much closer and much less congested. You can rent a car there and drive to us through the Hudson Valley. Alternatively, you can fly into Albany, which is even closer, but a smaller airport.
Car Rentals: Enterprise in Hudson gives our guests discounts, and their rates are better than big city rates.
Bike Rentals: Catskill Cycles (518-943-7433) is within walking distance, and offers a variety of bikes for rental.
Kayak and Canoe: There are kayak and canoe rentals available both along the Hudson in Catskill, and in the mountains, including North-South Lake. Keep in mind that the Hudson is tidal, and surface flow alternates between up and down stream twice a day!
We occupy the block adjacent to the Thomas Cole House (Cedar Grove) on Spring Street, where Route 23 approaches the Rip Van Winkle Bridge across the Hudson River. If you are coming from the eastern side of the river, either from New England or up the Taconic State Parkway, simply follow signs to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn left at the first traffic light (Spring Street/ Route 385) and we are on the left on the second block.
Coming up or down the Thruway, get off at the Catskill exit (exit 21) and follow signs toward the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. You will turn left as you exit the toll plaza, and take a left onto Route 23 as you pass underneath its overpass. Proceed about a mile, and turn to the right at the first traffic light, which is Spring Street/Route 385. Again, we occupy the second block on the left.
Coming on Route 9W, follow signs to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, Route 23. As above, once on Route 23, turn right at the first traffic light and we are on the second block, on the left.
From downtown Catskill, head up the hill at the courthouse on Bridge Street, and turn left at the top of the hill onto Spring Street, Route 385. Proceed several blocks and turn right on High Street.
